Recommended Hitch for a 2017 Honda Pilot

Question:

My daughter drives our old 2012 Honda Pilot at college. We have a newer 2017 Pilot. Would the tow hitch on the 2012 fit the 2017 if I removed it, or do I need to just buy a new tow hitch?

There was a model change that started with the 2016 year. Hitches from a 2012 Pilot will not fit a 2017 Pilot.

For your 2017 Honda Pilot, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch item # e98840. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Honda with included hardware. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. The etrailer hitch has a 6,000 lbs towing capacity and a 900 lbs maximum tongue weight.

I have linked an installation video below. Please note that all of the available hitches for a 2017 Pilot will only work with the 18" spare tire. There's not enough room for the larger one.

If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56291 for a 4-way or item # CU86FR for a 7-way and a ball mount kit item # C45534. I also recommend using the No-Drill Mount Bracket item # 18136 to secure the connector to your hitch without drilling. This will put it in an easy to reach spot and prevent the risk of it falling onto the road.
