Recommended Weight Distribution for 2017 Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 283BHSL
Question:
I have a 2017 Dutchmen kodiak 283 bhsl that I am planning to pull with a 2001 F350 I brought the unit home without hitch work done due to the cost the dealership was charging for a brand that I will not disclose I was wondering if the reese 49912 wd would be sufficient or if I need something more

The weight distribution system you use needs to be rated for the tongue weight of your 2017 Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 283BHSL. The # RE94FR has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and your dry tongue weight is 754 lbs so you will easily exceed the capability of the system, making it ineffective.
Based on that tongue weight, the 5,579 lb dry weight of the trailer, and the 7,600 GVWR you need the # RE44FR instead. This has a tongue weight range of 600-1,150 lbs so it will have you covered whether your trailer is empty or fully loaded. I would also recommend getting a scale like the # e99044 so you can measure your loaded tongue weight.
