Troubleshooting Time Delayed Brake Controller With Dim Display

Question:

Hi, I have a 51120 brake controller. I just installed it and seems like everything was working. i got the red dot when I pushed on the brake, the main problem is that the display light is very dim, i had to block out any sun to finally see the numbers. it seems to be working but is there anyway to make the display brighter so it is safe to use? or what can i do? Thanks

There is really no way to make the Curt Discovery brighter. Best advice I can give you is to shade it with your hand or you could make some kind of shade/hood out of black construction paper or other material and tape it on if you want to go that far with it. Outside of that, the only thing I could recommend is replacing it with a different brake controller.

One way or another I would say you're better off with a proportional brake controller which will give you a better, safer towing experience. Since it applies the brakes in proportion to your vehicle braking you won't have to worry about adjusting it much once you get it set up. Not only that, it will reduce wear and tear on your tow vehicle and tires. The Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 with the # 20127 is a budget friendly option. If you want a nicer model with a display the P2 # 90885 is a great choice as well.
