There are a couple of options to add a 7-way connector to your 2012 Ford Explorer that won't require you to run wires. If you have the factory tow package you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C55774. If you don't have the factory tow package you will need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56278.
I have linked a couple of installation videos below for these parts. You will want to verify which connector you have before purchasing.
If your Explorer came from the factory with either a 4-way or 7-way connector you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers item # 3035-P to set up the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 item # 90195. If you do not have the brake controller plug then you can still install the P3 you will just have to hardwire it with the included wiring harness.
