How Do You Install the Top Straps of the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack in Anchor Mode
Question:
Yakima fullback rack on 2017 ford explorer. I’m baffled with anchor mode….my first attempt the anchor jammed and the lid would not open. Got a picture? All the videos say reference to printed instructions, like they are too chicken to demonstrate.

When using the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 on your 2017 Ford Explorer it does require that the top straps are switched to anchor mode. I have included an installation video that demonstrates how to do this around the 6:50 mark. The demonstration is not on a Ford Explorer, but the concept is the same.
If the anchor jammed, it could have been that the straps were pulled too high before closing the hatch. You want to pull the straps through the gap between the roof and hatch just far enough to be able to grab them on the other side. You then want to close the hatch and pull the slack out of the straps through the gap. This will prevent the anchor from getting between the hatch and roof and causing a jam or the hatch not to close.
