How To Measure Leaf Springs on a 2015 Grand Design Reflection 308BHTS For Additional Stability

Question:

Leaf spring question. Whats the best way to measure my current leaf springs on my 2015 Grand Design Reflection travel trailer 308BHTS. It has the 5200lb axles and I would like to get a beefier set of springs. I think I will need to measure the width, how many leafs in the pack and the double eye length. Do I measure with weight on the spring or no? Without removing the spring how is the best way to measure?

The leaf springs on your 2015 Grand Design Reflection 308BHTS are going to be 1-3/4" wide, as this is the size used on double eye leaf springs. I wouldn't get to caught up in the amount of leaves your spring has as you can switch to a different amount of leaves if you are replacing them all. To measure the length from center eye to center eye you do not want to have any weight compressing the spring. I find the easiest way to measure is along the radius of the spring from center of bolt hole to the center of the spring pin. There is no need to lift the trailer weight off springs since this measurement does not change when compressed. Here is a list of the 6,000lb axle springs we have.

25-1/4" Long # e78SR 13-3/8" along radius
26" Long # e88SR 14" along radius
25-1/8" Long # e47SR 13-5/16" along radius

A better option would be to install 2 set of the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV on your Reflection. These springs will fit your overslung axles but require 5-5/16" to 6-1/2" from the spring plate to the frame in order to fit. You will have to verify this measurement on your Reflection to ensure they will fit. The SumoSprings provide additional support to the suspension, reducing body roll and absorbing shock which would typically be transferred into the trailer.
