Can You Install An Outdoor Shower Faucet On Th e Exterior Of A Trailer Without A Box

Question:

Can this be mounted directly to the outside of a camper or does it need to be enclosed in a box?

While you technically could mount the Empire Faucets Quick Connect Shower Valve # EM84JR to the outside of your trailer there are a few reasons why you would want to use a box instead. With the knobs being exposed on the outside of the trailer you run the risk of road debris, tree branches, etc. hitting the knobs and breaking them off.

The knobs and faucet aren't designed to withstand the wind pressure from you driving on the highway and could be damaged as well. If the knobs breaking off damages the valves and allows water through then you wouldn't be able to use the freshwater system of your trailer until you could fix the valves.

I recommend using a shower box like # EM59FR instead so that the knobs and adjustable spout can be protected inside the body of the trailer and behind a door. You'll want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the mounting flange of the box and some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 around the outer edge to prevent any water from getting into the wall of the trailer.
