Is the Curt Dual Hitch Receiver # D-196 Open in the Back for a Long Shank Bike Rack
Question:
I have a 2011 Rav4. I was looking at the D192 to raise my bike rack to go over rough terrain. I have a Hollywood 4 bike platform rack. The section of the rack that slides into my hitch is 4 3/4inch long before it hits a stop. I want to make sure that the top opening on the D192 is either open on both ends or would accept the 4 3/4inch section of my bike rack.

The top receiver on the Curt Dual Receiver, # D-192, is actually open in the back so the length of the shank on your bike rack will not be an issue. Using this device you will get about 3-1/4 inches more height from the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch.
The tongue weight capacity of this item is 350 pounds. However, the use of this adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The combined weight of the bike rack and bikes cannot exceed the reduced hitch tongue weight capacity.
Another option that will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch is # D210. With it you will get an additional 3-9/16 inches of height from the top of the receiver opening. The top receiver has a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds. It is also open at the back of the receiver. And the best part is it will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch. I have linked a video review of D210 for you.
