Where Do Universal 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Install Kit Rails and Brackets Mount on 1997 Dodge Ram
Question:
Where do I mount my fifth wheel hitch brackets on the frame of my 1997 dodge ram 2500 extra cab long bed?

Expert Reply:
On your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed you should be using 5th wheel installation kit # RP30035. On your truck with this kit you will need to measure from the rear edge of the truck bed (not the tailgate) forward 32-7/16 inches. This is where the back edge of the rear rails will be.
Once you position the rear rail you can use the hitch to place the front rail. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this installation kit for you. For your truck look at sheet 16 (page 17 overall) for the specific instructions for your truck.
Once you have the rails in the right place placing the underbed brackets in the proper locations will be easy.
