Will Using Thule # 853-7292 Allow Thule Ridgeline Bike Rack to Move Around in 2 Inch Hitch
Question:
I have a TH954 and I am interested in using it in a 2inch hitch on a new vehicle. Clearly this adapter 853-7292 will work but my concern is with rack movement. In a 1.25inch hitch the TH954 is very stable because the threaded mount clamps it tightly. I have never had a 2inch mount but they do not appear to have a threaded fitting in attachments. I see that there are several options for anti-rattle locking hitch pins. Would I need one of these to prevent/limit movement? Would any of these fit better than any others considering this adapters appears to have smaller inter dimensions than a normal 2inch fitting?

Helpful Expert Reply:
When the adapter is fastened to the shank of your Ridgeline with the # 853-5787-02 screw, the connection between the adapter and your bike rack will be snug. The two parts will not move against each other. The shank of your Ridgeline should be threaded for the Thule hitch pin, part # THSTL2. Once the threaded hitch pin is used, it will draw the shank plus the adapter against the side of the hitch receiver, preventing any movement.
