Weight Distribution Recommendation fora 2008 Chevy Trailblazer Towing a Jay Flight Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 6cyl 2008 Trailblazer and just purchased a Jay Flight 27BH travel trailer. Being new to the whole RV world I am wanting to know if this product would be correct and usefull to us. TW is about 500lbs and TW is around 4900lbs. Will this set up work around my propane tanks and is the size correct for me?

Expert Reply:

The propane tanks and/or battery box at the front of your trailer are likely to interfere with the chain hanging brackets on a weight distribution system such as # PS49582. The 500 pound estimated tongue weight though is fine for a system rated up to 750 pounds.

You can still use this system but you will need to add chain hangers # RP58305 and use them in place of the brackets that come with the system. These alternate hangers bolt to the sides of the trailer frame so the tanks and box will not be an issue.

Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual and the trailer hitch to make sure both can be used with weight distribution and that the towing capacity is high enough for the trailer. Also, when calculating tongue weight you will take the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and add to that the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

I have included a link to our FAQ articles on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you to view.
