How To Do Maintenance On etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar

Question:

I have the etrailer XHD and it needs to have heavy maintenance. It was exposed to road salt and while I rinsed it off/cleaned it - it was not enough. I feel like I need to disassemble it, clean, lube, and reassemble, but Im not sure if that is the best option and if so what type of lubricant should be used. I would appreciate your feedback.

I have attached for you below the maintenance procedures for the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar part # e94ZR as outlined in the owner's manual. In order to preform this maintenance I recommend using the Roadmaster Tow Bar Cleaner part # RM-9932 and Roadmaster LubeMaster Dry Silicone Spray part # RM-747.

- Periodically check all bolts and nuts to ensure proper tension or torque.
- Check all pivot points for wear or breakage.
- Replace any worn or damaged parts with O.E.M. parts only.
- An occasional spray of lubricant may be required inside the latch trigger area of the extending legs.
- DO NOT lubricate any of the pivot points of the etrailer XHD. The pivot points contain self-lubricating washers and do not need additional lubrication.
- Keep the etrailer XHD covered when stored on or off the towing vehicle.
- Make sure all bolts are properly tightened and those requiring a set torque are up to specifications.

If your tow bar requires maintenance outside of what is listed in the owner's manual we must recommend sending it in for service. If it needs any replacement parts please just let us know what they may be so I can see if we have them for you. If you don't yet have a storage bag, I recommend the Demco Tow Bar Storage Cover part # DM9523042.
