Troubleshooting Yakima Skybox 18 Hinge Sticking And Difficult to Open Form Both Sides
Question:
I have a Yakima Skybox 18 Carbonite and the forward hinge on one side keeps sticking, making it impossible to open the box from that side. I was able to open the box, lubricate the hinges, then open the box from the stuck side but as soon as I did, the other side stuck when I tried to close it. I’m wondering if it’s one of the bidirectional hinges caused the top of the box to be misaligned, but am curious for your take. Thanks!

I recommend starting by checking the Front # 8880684 and Rear # 8880683 Lid Supports on your Yakima SkyBox 18 # Y07336. You will want to ensure these supports are functioning properly and not sticking along their function range. Do note that dirt can get in these and cause them to stick which may also cause the lid not to want to close properly. Also check the mounts allow the hinge to move freely. If one of the supports is sticking it could lead to the lid not closing properly locking into all the hinges along the box.
