Dynamic Weight Rating of Malone SteelTop Roof Rack
Question:
Hello, is the 165lbs rating on the cross bar a dynamic rating. Is there a static rating available? I am trying to put a roof top tent of my 2016 Nissan Rouge with factory rail and cross bar. I know that my cross bar is only limit to 100lbs. My tent will be 140lbs. I figure with a few person it will bring the weight of the rack need support of 500lbs. There seem to be lot of hidden information of static rating. Not sure how much you know about 2016 Nissan Rouge, just curious if you know is the factory rail rating would be the limiting factor?

The Malone SteelTop Roof Rack part # MPG202 has a 165 lb dynamic weigh rating. The static weight capacity would be much higher but Malone unfortunately does not test for this. That said, you're always limited by your weakest rated component which could be the roof or roof rack, whichever is lower is the one you must abide by.
Please note, most rooftop tent manufactures only require the roof rack to have a dynamic weight capacity of 165 lbs such as the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars part # Y07436.
