Parts Needed To Flat Tow A 2006 Ford F-150 XLT
Question:
Hello. I would like to flat tow my 2006 Ford F150 xlt automatic 2Wd pickup behind my motorhome. The owners manual says I may do this but only for a short distance to prevent overheating the transmission. If I remove the driveshaft, I think I could tow for longer distance without a problem. Would that be correct? If so, I would need a list of components you have available to accomplish this. Thanks for your help.

You're correct that you would need to disconnect the driveshaft in order to prevent damage but you'll also need to install an auxiliary pump to lubricate the transmission to prevent burnout. We don't currently carry these pumps so you would need to look for these elsewhere. There is quite a bit of risk here as well because you're going against the manufacturer's guidelines so you could face full liability if anything does get damaged.
That said, here are the essentially components needed to flat tow your 2006 Ford F-150 XLT:
Baseplate: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # 495-3A.
Tow Bar: etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e84ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables included so you won't have to purchase them separately.
Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit will splice into the tail light wiring of your F-150 and transfer all signals from your motorhome to the truck, keeping you street legal.
Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This system does require setup each time you tow but it's super quick to do and doesn't require a ton of work like a fixed system would. This system also comes with a charge line kit to help keep your F-150's battery charged while you tow.
