Recommended Hitch for a 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Location of Tow Package Wiring Harness
Question:
Q1: Am looking to buy a Curt 13358 hitch for my 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 with step. It is equipped with option E40 7 pin trailer plug which appears to be square and not round as I expected. Is there an adaptor needed?

I will start out by confirming that the Curt Trailer Hitch item # 13358 is confirmed to fit the 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 with the step bumper. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Sprinter with included hardware. It fits both the 144" and 170" wheelbases.
As far as your wiring harness goes I looked online and the option E40 7-pin trailer plug should include the regular 7-way trailer socket. It should be zip-tied to the harness under the step bumper. I wasn't able to find an adapter for it so if yours is missing you will want to contact Mercedes-Benz as this is an OEM part. All of the wiring harnesses we have for the 2500 Sprinters are for the ones without the tow package so they won't work on yours.
I hope this information was helpful. If you do find the harness tucked up below the bumper you will need the Mounting Bracket item # 18138 to attach it to your hitch.
I have linked an installation video for the hitch below.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
