Troubleshooting S.H. Error Code on Prodigy P2 Brake Controller-2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually
Question:
2004 Dodge Ram 3500 dually. Approx weight of trailer is 7000 lbs unloaded. Brake controller worked fine when first connected then in heavy rain and 300 miles driving of driving, SH codes blinks, but when brakes are applied the controller seems to work. The indicator shows the numbers running up to preset choice when brakes are applied. Does this mean that the brakes are still working? I replaced new plugs and adapter. I read FAQ that this could be wiring short or magnet. What is the most common culprit for this type of codes for a Prodigy brand?

The S.H. error code you mentioned indicates that there is a short circuit somewhere in the trailer braking system. There are numerous possible culprits, but the most common suspects are damaged trailer connectors, loose or corroded ground connections at the trailer brake magnets and worn brake magnets.
Closely inspect your trailer connector, both on the tow vehicle as well as the connector on the trailer. Look for damage or excessive corrosion on the pins and sockets of the connector.
Trace the brake output circuit from the trailer connector back to the brake magnets. Look for pinched wires, or cracked or worn spots in the wire insulation that would allow the copper conductor to short out on the trailer frame.
Check the wiring connections at each brake magnet. Each magnet will have two wires exiting it. One wire should be securely grounded to the trailer connector, the other should connect to the brake output circuit. Make sure that the point where each brake magnet grounds to the trailer frame secure and that the connection point is not corroded.
Look at each brake magnet (you will need to pull each hub). Closely examine the face of each magnet (the surface that rides against the inside armature surface of each brake drum) if the magnet is worn away to the point where its interior copper wiring is visible, the magnet should be replaced.
Please examine the areas mentioned above. If everything checks out okay, please let me know and we will look into some other possible causes
