Solar Panel Charging System Compatibility On a Tear Drop Trailer With Thule Square Bar Roof Rack

Question:

I have this Thule rack mounted on a tear trailer just built this summer from a kit sold by CLC-Chesapeak Light Craft. This square rack was sold by them so owners could put kayaks on top. Some people chose to put solar panels on top. The solar panels are bought with Z tabs so they will be bolted on to what ever Thule provides for mounting hardware on their square back. I see you have part #853-2156 which is a Thule replacement part. You also have part # TH8897. I am unsure which of these parts to purchase. The tear trailer has a curved roof from front to back. The Thule feet are already mounted with the square bar. The customer pictures you have were nice but did not reveal how accessories were bolted tight to these two parts mentioned above.

I recommend using the Go Power Solar Flex Eclipse Charging System w/ MPPT Solar Controller # GP67MR on your tear trailer. This solar panel is flexible and will follow the curve of your roof line. This particular kit has a 190watt panel. Each panel is 56" long x 27" wide x 1/8" deep allowing you to not have to mounts a rigid panel to your rack.

If you go with a ridged panel setup like the Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System # 34282181 you will need 4 of the Replacement Square-Bar Clamp-On # 853-2156 with 4 Rectangular Washers # 853-2154, 4 M6 x 25mm Carriage Bolts # 915-0625-54 and 4 Hex Nuts # 936060054. This will allow you to mount the feet for your solar panel to the roof rack.
