Solution for 36 Inch Hitch Extension on 2020 Ram 3500 With Arctic Fox 992 Camper

Question:

I have questions regarding hitch extensions and accessories. I have a 2020 Ram 3500 Dually with 8ft bed. I am carrying a bed mounted Arctic Fox 992 truck camper. I need a hitch extender of 36 inches. I would like to tow everything from a kayak trailer, 4-wheeler trailer or a boat with a gross weight of say 5000-6000 and tongue weight of 500-600. I understand I can purchase the magnum hitch replacing the factory hitch and 36 super truss. This seems like over kill for towing the lighter loads I cant never exceed Towing/payload capacity in this configuration. What other options/manufacturers are available for a 36 hitch extender mounted in factory hitch with side to side tensioner control, and maybe an equalizer hitch added to trailer. Plus 4-way flat and 7 way round trailer wiring extensions. Side note I have Torklift Fast Guns mounted to attach camper to truck. Thanks!

The only other extension that will meet your 36" requirement is the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches, 41" - 48" Long # RP45018. This extension would have a maximum gross trailer weight of 7,500 lbs/750 lbs of tongue weight at 41" with weight distribution. Also, this does not have lateral-support safety chains like the TorkLift does.

When you use a really long extension like the # TLE1536 there is a lot of additional force. This is why it seems like overkill to use this extension with the TorkLift SuperHitch # TLD1111-30. The longer the extension the greater the reduction in capacity will be.

For what you are doing I would go with the TorkLift. The SuperTruss is going to have more stability and help distribute weight because of the design. I understand not wanting to add a hitch when you already have one, but you also want a nice, safe towing experience. For a 7-way extension you can use the # TLW6036 or # TLW6532. The # TLW6532 has an additional socket that can run to your camper. For a 4-way extension we have the # HM47114. You will also need to replace your rear tie-downs with the # TLR3510.

I know you said your trailer tongue weight is 500-600 lbs, but tongue weight also includes any cargo behind the rear axle when choosing a WDH. I'm not sure what it will be with your Arctic Fox 992 so I recommend measuring with a scale like the # e99044 to find your actual tongue weight.

Both extensions will work with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System. You will need to choose from the following based on your loaded tongue weight:

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET (600-1,000 lbs of tongue weight)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37120ET (800-1,200 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET (1,000-1,400 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ64FR (1,200-1,600 lbs)

These will also require the # ALL643216 for hitch ball installation.
