Best Wiring Kit to Provide Power for Vehicle FOB When Battery Dies and Doors are Locked
Question:
Have a FOB car. No signs what so ever battery was beginning to go bad, none. Battery went dead on a cold night in late December. Real dead, so dead locks on car would not open with the FOB. Could not get in the car to open hood. Comes with a plastic emergency key in FOB that almost snapped while attempting to turn. Probably because key lock was almost frozen due to temp and never ever used. Even now in Summer, that key is really hard to turn. I have tried lube etc, no change. I am wondering if I could have hooked up a pos jumber cable from a good car to the 7 Pin trailer plug battery hot out. Just want to give the car just enough power to open the door locks. I could find neg/ ground on the ball or all over. Once in the car, open the hood and jump properly. I know this is not recommended. Wondering if Batt hot in plug is a direct feed or goes through some computer. AS I said, just enough power to get door locks open. Does anybody make anything for this example? While not common, I know I am not the only one that this has happened to. Thanks

For your application I recommend using the Jumper Cables with Gray Quick Connect # 3375601025. This comes with a connector and wiring that you install on your vehicle and then you'll just have to make sure the gray plug is accessible. Then if your battery dies again you just connect the other wire to the gray plug and the to the other vehicle battery to provide some power to your vehicle.
Unfortunately you can't use the 7-Way plug at the back of your vehicle to charge the battery as that is designed to only send power. It might be possible that some power might trickle back to the main battery but typically there are safeguards in place to prevent that from happening which is why I recommend using the kit above that is designed for the specific instance you went through. The nice thing about this is once you unlock your car door you will be able to try jump starting it since this will be connected the right way to your vehicle battery.
