Rightline Roof Cargo Bag Recommendation For a 2010 Honda Odyssey With Factory Side Rails
Question:
Van has factory installed side rails. Traveling about 600 miles one way with 2 adults and 3 small children. Have to bring pack-n-play 36x18x12, which I would like to put in bag. The rest of the items in bag would likely be luggage. Would like to avoid the cost of purchasing cross-bars - what is benefit of having them/not having them? If purchasing cargo bag what accessories do you recommend be purchased. How long does it take to ship? Thank you.

Getting a rooftop cargo bag like the Rightline # RL100S20 that you referenced when traveling 10 hours with three small children is a very good idea.
It is nice that you have the side rails on your 2010 Honda Odyssey because you will be able to secure the cargo bag to the rails instead of running them through your vehicle which decreases head room and you will not have to purchase crossbars.
Because the cargo bag measures 44 x 36 x 19 inches your pack-n-play will snugly fit inside which should be fine. I have found that when using a cargo bag it is better to pack in flexible tote style luggage because it fits in the carrier better and you can usually use all of the available space.
If you think you may need more space, Rightline offers a larger, 18 cu ft bag # RL100S30 which measures 48 x 40 x 19 inches. Because the pack-n-play is going to take up so much room, you may want to check this one out as well.
I recommend checking out the Rightline Non-Skid Protection Pad # RL100650 for your trip. This pad helps hold your cargo bag in place especially when braking or accelerating since you do not have cross bars that typically do that. When you use the pad make sure that your roof is clean and free of road grime. The protective pad also protects your roof from scratches and dings that could inadvertently occur.
Although this cargo bag is waterproof, we always recommend to pack anything that can absolutely not get wet in sealed plastic, just in case.
Before you fill the cargo bag, please check your owners manual to see what the roof weight capacity for your Odyssey is and use that as your guideline when loading your cargo.
