Axle System For Building 2,200 lb GVWR Camper Trailer

Question:

Hello, Im building a tear trailer camper and need to have an axel chosen before having a trailer chassis fabricated. I would like to build up to a 26-27 tire diameter and anticipate having approximately 2,200 lbs GVW/GTW. Can you recommend an independent torsion axle kit?

We don't offer torsion axles, but there is a similar kit we have that will work with a 2,200 lb GVWR camper trailer, which is an axle-less system from Timbren:

- Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS01

The Timbren # ASR1THDS01 have a 2,200 lb capacity and are simply bolted or welded onto your trailer frame so you do not have to worry about finding an axle that meets any specific measurements. They also give you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle because aren't connected by an axle beam, so they work independently, so if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. The system also has progressive springs built in which are shock absorbers that allow a much smoother, more comfortable ride than the leaf springs found on standard axles.

For hubs you can use either idler hubs or a hub and drum, with the correct fits being the following:

- Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K

- Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K

Both hubs will allow you to use tires with a 26 or 27 inch total diameter because they allow the use of wheels that are between 13" and 15", and that size wheel gives you a 26-27 inch tire.
