Roof Rack Recommendation for 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 for Kayak While 5th Wheel Towing
Question:
You answered half of the question regarding hauling a kayak while towing a 5th wheel trailer when you recommended a front hitch and using an extender to support most of the load. I found this answer in the FAQ’s. There is no recommendation for the truck cab end however. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab and cannot find a fit kit or assembly to support the other end of my kayak. I have already purchased and installed a front hitch and the hitch extender for this purpose. Thank you.

To add a roof rack to the roof of your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab you're going to need to install the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells - Track Mount # Y02-490B. This can be used for truck cabs or camper shells and it requires you to permanently install the tracks to the roof of your truck but you can add/remove and adjust the crossbars as needed.
In the past there were some roof racks that used clamps to fit to the door jambs of your truck but those haven't been transferred over to newer roof rack kits being released which is why you need to use the universal kit.
With this installed you'll have the crossbars on your roof to pair with your hitch extender so you can carry your kayak on top of your truck while 5th wheel towing.
