What Braking System Is Included on RoadMaster Tow Dolly # RM-2000-1

Helpful Expert Reply:
The RoadMaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1 includes electric brakes on its two wheels. These require that the tow vehicle be equipped with a brake controller to activate them. We offer a variety of these controllers which comes in two basic types, time-delayed and proportional. The linked article will provide a lot of useful background information including advantages and disadvantages of each.
We generally recommend proportional controllers like the popular Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885, which provides the smoothest and quickest braking while also providing the least amount of wear on both the vehicle and trailer brakes. The P2 has proven to be a reliable and easy-to-use controller often chosen by our customers.
Depending on your tow vehicle and how it is equipped you may be able to use a simple plug-and-play brake control harness to connect it to your vehicle. Vehicles equipped with a tow package often have an under-dash port where brake controllers connect so that they can feed the trailer brake signal to the 7-way trailer connector on your tow vehicle. You can use the link provided to visit our page for brakes controllers and use the drop-down menu to select your year/make/model and style of tow vehicle to see if a plug-and-play harness is available.
If your tow vehicle does not have tow package wiring or a 7-way you can still do a hard-wired installation. In this case you will need a brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. I have linked two articles as well as a video that cover this type of installation.
