Troubleshooting Orange Light on a Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller and Brakes being Engaged
Question:
Hi, Have a 21 ft Starcraft RV, discovered that the onboard battery completely discharged after disconnecting shore power. Once I connected to Tow Vehicle and put it into gear, the indicator light on the Tekonesh Voyager BC went from green to orange and remained that way. Brakes were being engaged even though the brakes were not being applied. Could the discharged battery have anything to do with that? took the batter to be checked and was told it had 0 cold cranking amps. Is this the Tow Vehicle 11 chevy silverado 1500? Also noticed that occaisionally the cruise control would not work. Could the issues be related?

The orange light on the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 indicates that there is current flowing through the brake magnets. Which this makes sense you said that your brakes are being activated regardless if the brakes of your vehicle are applied.
Typically this problem is caused by an incorrect stoplight wire connection. I would check the wiring of the brake controller, specifically the stoplight circuit. The red wire of your # 39510 should only see voltage when the brakes are applied. You might use a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 to test this circuit to make sure there is only voltage on this circuit when the brakes are applied.
The battery on your trailer should not affect your brake controller performance. You could even try charging the battery or replacing it to confirm this.
