Recommended Replacement for Atwood G6A-8E 6 gallon Water Heater

Question:

I have a 2005 jayco and it has domestic Atwood g6a-8e in it that has recently died and that model is discontinued. Just wonder what a replacement would be or a suburban one that is interchangeable?

I have two options for you, first is the 6-gallon gas/electric water heater, the Atwood # DMC74FR. You will need the door conversion kit to help fit it to the old opening, use # DMC84FR for white and # DMC24FR for black. When connected to shore power, this is a quick-recovery water heater that provides a long lasting supply of hot water with a small, lightweight tank. It can produce up to 12 gallons of hot water per hour. The double-panel on/off Switch for Dometic Gas / Electric Combination Water Heaters, # AT91230 allows you to power the electric and gas components on and off individually. If most or all of your use will be at campsites with full power available, this is my recommendation.

Note: Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier.

The second option and my favorite if you will be using your camper for off-grid/boondocking is the Excel RV Tankless Water Heater, # EX93FR. This is a vent-free design with an ODS (Oxygen Depletion Safety) shutoff device that detects low levels of oxygen for safety. It can be installed almost anywhere as long as you have decent air turnover. It requires 2" of clearance on each side and 8" above the unit for proper ventilation. Per the manufacturer this has to be installed upright with the vent facing upwards. We do recommend that installation and service be performed by a qualified installer/RV Tech.
