Roof Rack Recommendation for 2016 Kia Soul and 2014 Honda Crosstour

Question:

I’m looking to tote a kayak on two different cars. One being a 2016 Kia Soul. It has fixed points on the roof where a rack can be attached. I was comparing the Rhino forget which model, but was about $430 to the Yakima about $580 and saw the Rhino has hooks that go over the side of the car in the images. Where as the Yakima does not. Do these hooks/clamps enforce the Rhino? Or are these images not using the fittings pre installed on the Kia? I think we would likely also want J-hooks for the Kia set up. Do you have a recommendation? Husband, Kia owner, is very noise sensitive, is there a lot of interference with either? Do you have a recommendation for something else? Our other car is a 2014 Honda Crosstour. No fittings. There is a black strip that runs along the side of the car on each side where fittings would be. I was looking at the clamp on rails for this car. Open to all recommendations there. Any pros or cons for the options available? Have barely started researching for the Honda. Thank you for your time.

If possible it's a better option to go with a roof rack that attaches to fixed mounting points on the roof of the vehicle than using door clamps. This will give you a quieter and less likely to damage vehicle paint solution. For that the best option is the Rhino Rack Roof Rack part numbers # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK404.

Thule doesn't have any racks that fit your 2014 Crosstour so the best option for that would be the Inno Aero rack part numbers # INXB123-130, # INXS250, and # INK587. Both of these racks are going to give you the quietest solution for both vehicles and aren't the most expensive option either.
