Expert Reply:

While it doesn't need to be drilled, the lower front grille of your 2008 Mini Cooper S Hardtop does need to be trimmed in order to install the base plates that fit (unless you have the Sport suspension), which are the following part number:

- Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521877-1

This is necessary in order to allow the arms to protrude so the tow bar has a place to attach. Along with the base plates, the rest of the flat tow set up for your '08 Mini Cooper S Hardtop consists of the following:

- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522

- Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly # 910021-00

- Safety Chains: Roadmaster Safety Cables # RM-646

- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit w/ 7-Way to 6-Wire Connector - LED Bulb and Socket # RM-152-LED-7

- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR
