Parts Needed to Install a Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller On a 2017 BMW X5
Question:
I’m trying to wire my 2017 BMW X5 F15 for the Tekonsha 90885C Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. My VIN number lookup info tells me that I have the S8SL Trailer coupling preparation. I’ve been using a trailer light adapter Hopkins Pulse Width Modulation Converter for a few years but I’m now adding brakes. I’m trying to figure out where to get the brake pedal/light signal/voltage. You sell an adapter cable for my BMW that mates with the Tekonsha Prodigy. Will that help me ? If so, where do I plug it in to my vehicle? I installed my own 7 pin trailer plug when I installed the Hopkins unit and have a blue brake power wire that I will eventually hook up to the brake controller. Any help would be appreciated, Thx,

To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 on your 2017 BMW X5 you will need the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000. The will allow you to gain a signal wire when the brake pedal is pushed without tapping into the delicate wiring on your brake switch.
You will then be able to run the Blue Wire # 10-1-1 from your brake controller to the 7-Way you have installed. Additional wiring and fuse will be needed depending on where you plan to pull power from for the controller.
The S8SL Trailer Coupling preparation you have is a factory connection for the trailer wiring on the back of your X5. To use it you would have had to get the factory wiring and then had your X5 flashed so it will operate through the ECU.
