Recommended Brake Controller for 2016 BMW X5
Question:
I need to install a brake controller on my BMW X5 40e. I currently have a curt CURT® - 4-Way Flat Dual-Output Electrical Adapter with a 7 way connection. Which brake controller do I need? Can I install it to the current adapter that I have on the rear of my SUV?

It sounds like you already have a 7 way connector installed on the back of your 2016 BMW X5, so you've already got everything you need to use a brake controller-except the unit itself. I recommend using the Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller # C51180 since it will easily install by plugging into your 7 way connector and provide you with proportional braking for your trailer. This unit is controlled by your Bluetooth enabled smart phone that requires either iOS 8.0 or newer, or Android 4.4 or newer operating systems, but it's an easy to use and install option that works well with foreign cars because it requires no wiring inside the vehicle.
I've linked an informational video on the Echo mobile that I recommend having a look at as well.
