For your 2012 Ford Flex I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This unit is very small with the only portion visible on the dash being the control knob. The rest of the unit sits behind the dash and out of the way when you are not towing. The Wiring Harness # RED69FR is needed to connect the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to the brake controller.
I have linked installation videos for both the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118472 and Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 below for you to reference. In the installation video they do install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 which will have the same wire colored pigtail as the Redarc I recommended above to make installation easier.
