Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2022 Ford Maverick

Question:

Hi, looking to tow a 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid 3,600 lbs behind my class C motorhome. Need recommendations for the whole towing setup. Considering Roadmaster base plate RM97RR Roadmaster tow bar RM522 and Blue Ox Patriot 3 braking system although would like to consider permanent braking system, just not sure which ones work on this hybrid. Wiring package? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

To flat tow your 2022 Ford Maverick you'll need a tow bar, base plate, tow bar wiring kit, braking system, and safety cables. I have the following recommendations for each of these items:

Tow Bar: The Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522 is a great tow bar but I prefer the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates # e74ZR instead.

For a similar price to the Falcon you'll get much more in return. It features non-binding latches and telescoping, self supporting arms that make connecting and disconnecting your Maverick on any terrain a breeze. It has an adjustable head that tilts up or down 3" and the shank has a built-in 1-1/2" rise or drop to keep tow bar parallel with road while towing without the use of a high/low hitch adapter. It also comes with safety cables included.

Base Plate: The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM97RR you referenced are a great choice to go with your direct connect style tow bar. Roadmaster is known for quality, and that's exactly what you'll get with these direct-connect style base plates. The arms are also removable to provide a clean factory look when not in use.

Note: These base plates are only compatible with models with a 2.5 Hybrid motor.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15247. This diode kit allows you to use your Ford Maverick's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV.

Note: Brake light relay # RM-88400 may be required if used with supplemental braking system. The brake light switch wire you'll need to tap into is going to be purple/white.

Braking System: Since you want a permanent system I recommend the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink # DM26VR if your motorhome has air brakes or the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor # DM86VR if your motorhome has hydraulic brakes.

Both of these systems are a one time install and require no setup once installed. Both systems apply pressure to your Maverick's brakes in proportion to how you press on your motorhome's brake pedal.

Safety Cables: Since the # e74ZR already has safety cables you won't need to purchase them separately.
