I went ahead and checked your owner's manual for your Ford 2010 F-250 super duty, and there are some restraints. The only way Ford recommends flat-towing your truck is if you have the 4x4 model that has an automatic or manual transmission with the manual-shift transfer case. However, Ford says not to flat-tow if you have the 4x4 model that has a manual or automatic transmission with the electronic-shift transfer case. If you have this second model, Ford says that the vehicle should not be towed with any wheels on the ground.
If you happen to have the manual-shift transfer case, you will need a base plate, a tow bar, a tow braking system, safety cables, and vehicle tow wiring. I recommend the following flat-tow setup:
- Demco Classic Base Plate Kit - Fixed Arms # DM9517220
- Demco Excali-Bar III Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates - RV Mount - 2" Hitch # DM9511013-BX (comes with safety cables)
- Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord # RM-152-98146-7
The great thing about the Demco Classic base plate kit is that is simply installs into your F-250's chassis. It comes with all required hardware. As far as the Excali--Bar III tow bar, it allows for you to easily release your vehicle even in uneven ground and simply slides into the motorhome's hitch receiver without the need of a ball mount. In addition, you will also receive the proportional action of the Brake Buddy Classic III which applies the F-250's brakes at the same level that you apply the brakes to your motorhome. The relay is required with the Brake Buddy Classic III to keep your brake signal from overriding the turn signal sent by your motorhome. With the diode kit, this will allow you to connect your motorhome's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your F-250's lighting system.
As with all flat-towing applications, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you abide by all manufacturer guidelines.
