Do I Need to Use a Bike Frame Adapter Bar for a Womens Bike when Using the Swagman Current?

Question:

I have 2 Trek Bikes to carry. One is mine 22.5 male Trek and the other is 20inch female Trek bike. the female bike does not have a frame on the top like the typical male bike does. My question is using the Part # S64683 Swagman Chinook rack would I have to buy a cross barinch to put on the female bike to attach the pads to hold it on or are the pads adjustable so I can adjust down to reach the lower bar on the female bike? Thanks I am very interested in part # S64683 but need this answered.

I have a great alternative for you. Unfortunately, yes - you will need to purchase a bike frame adapter bar like the Saris Bike Beam # SA3040 in order to use a women's-style frame on the Swagman Chinook - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # S64683.

However, with that being said, I have a great bike rack that does not require a bike frame adapter. For that route, I recommend the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SA4412B. Since the cradles on the Freedom adjust independently along the central mast, they attach to virtually any bike frame style. Also, if has a much higher weight capacity (60 pounds per-bike) and has a shank rise of 8 inches for additional ground clearance height. It also accommodates bike wheelbases up to 48 inches. If you happen to have a 1-1/4" hitch, the Freedom is only compatible with Class II 1-1/4" hitches as well as 2-inch hitches. It's also compatible with Class I hitches but at a reduced capacity.

If you happen to have tires that are between 2.25 - 5 inches wide, we also carry the fat-bike version of the Freedom: the # SA4412B-FB.

If you need a hitch receiver on your 2016 Honda CR-V (non-Touring), I recommend the etrailer Hitch - 2" # e98868. Since this hitch has a length of only 3 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside face of your bumper, you do not have any bumper clearance issues with the Current or the Freedom. Also, the hitch is constructed in the U.S.A., so you can rest assured of its overall quality.
