Determining The Correct RIse/Drop Ball Mount For Towing A 2023 16X Basecamp Travel Trailer

Question:

My TV is a 2021 Tacoma Off Road with a hitch height of 17inch pavement to inside top. The hitch height for the basecamp 16X is listed as 20.63. What they are calling hitch height appears to be measured from the top inside of the coupler to the ground. The basecamp utilizes a 2 5/16inch hitch ball size. If I subtract for a 2.5inch - 3inch coupler I get ~18. Should I get a small /rise hitch rather than a 1rise hitch just in case? I likely wont get the trailer until 2023 so cant measure... Thanks!

To measure for a drop or rise you'll first need your tow vehicle and trailer to be on level ground with the trailer leveled as well. Then you'll measure from the ground to the top of the inside of the receiver on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma. The next measurement is going to be from the ground to the bottom of the couple on the Basecamp travel trailer. The ball is not factored in when completing this calculation because you'll be measuring from the bottom of the coupler instead of inside of it.

Since you stated you have a 17" hitch height on your Tacoma and a 18.31" coupler height on the Basecamp you'll need a 1"- 2" rise to be level. For this you can use the etrailer Ball Mount Kit - 1" Rise or 2" Drop # EBMK2216.
