Can Radial Load Range C Trailer Tires be Used in Place of Bias Ply Load Range D 215/75-14 Tires

Question:

my tire size on the new Shore Lander is ST215 75D14 supposed to be bias tire with D load range? can I replace my trailer original tires with 215 75R14 load range C? I want to get the spare in radial form, but they dont recommend mixing radial/bias. So should I use the radial set and the old ias set used as emergency spare? or should I get a bias tire for spare, if I can find one? Thanks.

First, you do want to make sure the tires are the same type, radial or bias ply. But in the case of a spare, since it is a temporary situation you can mix them as long as you get the tire repaired or replaced as soon as possible.

As far as going to a 215/75R14 radial tire, load range C, like # AM10229, as long as the 1,870 pound capacity at 50 psi is enough (total of 3,740 pounds for one axle) then you can absolutely switch to radials. I have included a link to our FAQ article on trailer tires for you.
