Smaller Tire & Wheel For 13 Scamp Trailer to Move Into Garage

Question:

Hi Support Guru, I am looking for a smaller wheel for my new smaller 13# scamp trailer . The trailer has originally use 13 tires. The axle capacity is around 2200 lbs. We are considering to purchase a 12 wheel to lower the height of the trailer, so it can fit into the garage door. This wheel is just going to be used to fit into the garage door, will not be used for traveling. The standard tires for the trailer is 13. I see that there is still some room between 10 drum and inner part of the wheel. I am thinking of purchase Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 12 x 4 Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized Finish Item # AM20134. The bolt is fine , however I could not figure out the inner length of the wheel , not sure whether it will fit the 10 drum. Could you measure the inner length of the AM20134 to see if it will works for us. Thanks a lot.

So it is actually the hub that determines the wheel fit, so I did some research on your 13' Scamp trailer and found it has a 2,200 lb axle. Hubs for that size axle do fit 12 inch wheels, so you can absolutely use a 12 inch wheel like the Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20134.

It will fit right on your hub, but with that said, your current 13 inch tires won't fit that wheel, so you will need a wheel and tire combo. Your Scamp uses 175/80R13 size tires, which measure 24" in diameter, and to get a lower height you can use the Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel # AM30820.

This tire and wheel combo measures 21.9" in diameter to lower your trailer a bit, and has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like you need.
