Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2018 Toyota Highlander Towing 2007 Fun Finder Trailer
Question:
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander and a 16’ 2007 fun finder trailer. Tongue weight 220 lbs plus propane tank and battery. What WDH do you recommend?

When it comes to choosing a weight distribution hitch the most important factor is the tongue weight. From what I have found, the 220 lbs is the dry tongue weight of your trailer. You will want to know the loaded tongue weight to choose the best system. The best way to find this is to use a scale like the # e99044.
Once you know the tongue weight you can choose the WDH that is right for you. Ideally you want the tongue weight to fall in the middle of the tongue weight range of the hitch. Although I do not know the exact model of your trailer, I found a similar 2007 Fun Finder X X-189 FBR with a 250 lb dry tongue weight and 5,850 lb GVWR. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. Based on this information your tongue weight will be something like 585-877 lbs at most if your trailer is fully loaded.
I have a few recommendations depending on what you find. All of these are Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control. For a tongue weight of 250-600 lbs you would need the # FA92-00-0600. For 400-800 lbs you would need the # FA92-00-0800. Should you find that it is over 800 lbs then you would want the # FA92-00-1000 with a tongue weight range of 600-1,000 lbs. Ultimately it depends on your typical loaded tongue weight. If you have a large variance between loaded and unloaded while traveling it would also be possible to swap out the spring bars for the correct tongue weight to make sure your WDH is effective.
You will also need # A-90 for a 2" ball or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16" ball.A 1-7/8" thin walled socket like the # ALL643216 is also recommended for installation.
I have attached some review and installation videos along with some helpful articles on weight distribution and tongue weight that you can check out.
