If you have an OEM controller on your 2010 Ford F-150 then a Ford dealer may need to flash the electric system to get rid of any error messages, but there won't be any configuring that needs to be done. If you don't have an OEM controller then nothing will need to be done.

I have a few recommendations for a brake controller depending on how you plan to use the controller. For a cost-effective but reliable controller I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160, but if you will be towing quite often I recommend picking up the Prodigy P3 # 90195 instead because it has an easier setup and a nice LCD screen that makes reading what the controller is doing easier.

For wiring you need the Adapter # 22292 which plugs in under your driver's side dash and then if you don't have the factory 7-Way connector at the back of your F-150 you also need the Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to complete your wiring setup.
