Can The 2022 Toyota 4Runner Factory Pigtail Be Used When Installing A Redarc Controller?
Question:
I am planning on installing the redarc tow pro elite in my 2022 4runner which has adaptive cruise and automatic braking. I want to use the factory pigtail harness that came with my 4runner, therefor not needing TPH-021. The major difference i see in the TPH-021 is it has an additional chassis ground lug. Is that the only difference or is there also a diode installed in TPH-021.

The only differences between the factory pigtail and the Redarc Pigtail # RED49FR (Redarc part number TPH-021) will indeed be the external ground and a diode pre-installed on the red wire. There were a few issues with brake controller wiring in the past and this was the quick and easy fix for the issue. As there is a diode included in the pigtail, you will need to add one to get the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR working properly. And just as a side note, I really like this controller.
You may also want to grab the Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002 to really clean up the install. It isn't completely necessary, but does make a clean install even cleaner once finished.
