Parts Needed to Add Brakes to TNT 5x8 Enclosed Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles

Question:

Hello, I recently bough a TNT 5x8 enclosed trailer and would like to add electric drum brakes to it. My axle is equipped with a mounting flange, so Im assuming it is possible to add them. The GVWR says 2990lbs and the GAWR rating says 3500lbs. Which kit do you think will work for me? Also, are the drums sold separately from the electric brake kits? Thanks for your help.

Helpful Expert Reply:

For the 3,500 lb axles of your trailer you will use 10 inch assemblies. For that you'd want the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. These assemblies will work well for your axles and they do not require any adjustment since they do that automatically. Then for hub/drums you'd want the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3.5K E-Z Lube Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K and you'd be set.
