Kayak Carrier Recommendation For 2 Hobie Mirage Passport 12 Kayaks With a 2022 Kia Telluride
Question:
My wife and I each have a Hobie Mirage Passport 12 Kayak and we just got a 2022 Kia Telluride for carrying them to the lake. What system do you recommend that we use to carry these kayaks?

Expert Reply:
I recommend using a trailer due to the weight of your Hobie Passport 12 Kayaks. Each Kayak weighing 83lbs will overload the maximum roof rack capacity of 165lbs on your 2022 Kia Telluride. The trailer will also make it much easier for loading as it uses bunks rather than a complicated rack mount and the lower height makes it much safer to load and unload the Kayaks.
The Malone Cam Buckle Load Straps # MPG307-15 will help to prevent you from over tightening down the kayaks and risking damage to the kayaks.
If you do not have a receiver on your Telluride I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e45ZR. With this receiver you will be able to use the Ball Mount # C45030 and 2" Ball # 63845 for connecting to the Malone trailer.
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # CU94FR will operate the trailer lights from your Telluride.
