For your 2022 Toyota Highlander Limited I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C45CR. This hitch is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 6,000lbs (8,000lbs with WDH) and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 900lbs (900lbs with WDH). That being said this hitch does not increase the capacities of your Highlander so you'll need to review your owner's manual and go with whichever is the lower capacity.

This hitch has a simple bolt-on installation with no drilling required. Trimming or removal of underbody panel is required for installation. This hitch may interfere with the Hands-free Liftgate sensors and functionality may be very limited or possibly lost. This hitch will fit models with an 18" or smaller spare tire under vehicle; larger spare tires will not be able to be stored under the vehicle.

You'll also need a 4-pole connector to transfer the lighting signals from Highlander to the trailer so I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the trim panel near the driver's side rear seat belt bracket. You will have to pull back the side trim panel to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket like # 18144 is recommended to keep the connector secure.

For a great starter ball mount kit I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500lbs # 989900. It has a 1-7/8" hitch and 2" hitch ball to allow you to tow multiple trailers. It has a 1" or 3" rise and a 2" or 4" drop to keep your trailer level while towing.
