Does a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Standard Bed Need to use a Sliding Hitch Towing a Tapered 5th Wheel

Question:

I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 short bed with prep package. My question is whether I have to use a sliding hitch or if I can use a fixed hitch. The 5th wheel that I tow has a tapered front.

The new GM trucks do have a slightly longer standard/short bed at 6'9" compared to the 6'5" you typically find. With the tapered front you may be able to get away with not using a sliding hitch. The best way to figure this out would be to measure for your clearance. To do this you will want to take A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab and subtract C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half) to get your clearance (A-C= clearance). You will need at least 4" of clearance to be able to use a fixed hitch like the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3710. If you take this meassurement and get less than 4" then you will still want to use a sliding hitch like the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3775.
