How to Find Replacement Trailer Axle for 5x8 Trailer
Question:
Is there an industry standard for the distance between the spring seat and the hub face , I have a trailer with mobile home axle and I want to replace it with one I can put brakes on , the trailer is a 5x8 and spring seats at 57.5” , is there an axle offered with this short of distance ?

We have axles that use more of the common dimensions but it's always a good idea to double check what you currently have and try to replace it with something that has similar measurements. If you measured inside the spring seats for that 57-1/2" distance then one of our spindles that has a 58" spring-center measurement should work for your application - you just then need to make sure that the axle weight capacity matches what you need for your trailer.
For example, the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles # T20BTR-EZ-7258 is rated for 2,200 lbs and has a spring-center of 58" and a hub-face of 72" (see attached photo). If you can verify that the weight rating and measurements will be sufficient for you then this would be an excellent choice.
If this looks like it will work for your trailer just let me know and I can let you know what other parts you will need. If it won't work just let me know what your measurements and weight capacity are for your current axle and I can see if we have anything that will work.
