Trouble Shooting Brake Controller On 1999 Ford F-350
Question:
On my brake controller on 99 F-350. I have 12 volts on the back wire, I confirmed the white ground was grounded to the frame with an ohm meter. The red wire has power when I depress the brake pedal but the green light does not come on on the controller? I cut the blue wire coming out of the controller to try eliminating the chance of a bad wire going to the trailer plug. now if I put my 12 volt test wire to the blue wire coming out of controller, and am grounded to the frame with the test light, then the light comes on on the controller and I get power on the blue wire. if I slide the override on it then the light on controller goes to orange/ red. as soon as the test pin is removed the light on controller goes out. Does it sound like I need to replace the controller or check something else. thanks

If you have a proportainal controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195 for an example. You won't get power if you are sitting still, so if you are stationary nothing is wrong.
If you are driving around hitting the brake the issue is going to be somewhere along the blue wire, between the controller and the 7 way plug.
There is a short or disconnect somewhere along the wire. running a new wire or correcting the short/disconnect will fix the issue.
