What Brakes and Hub/Drums Do will Fit My 7K Double Trailer Axles?

Question:

I recently acquired an older double axel trailer, Im guessing GVWR to be 14k#. The trailer has the old doughnut style rims that I also hear referred to as mobile home axels. Ideally, Id like to convert to 8 lug drum with electric breaks on all four wheels. Would this require purchasing and installing new axels, or can I swap out hubs, breaks 12 x 2, and drums? The current back plate does have the five hole/bolt mounting pattern for mounting to the axel, if that makes a difference.

From the sound of your trailer has the common 5-bolt brake flange (see attached photo to verify) and the standard 12 inch x 2 inch brake assemblies. With this information, you will be able to swap out your hubs, drums, and brakes with the following parts:

- 2 sets of the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA
- 4 of the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 7K lb E-Z Lube Axle - 12" - 8 on 6-1/2 - 1/2" Studs # 42866UC3-EZ

If you need help with installing these components, I went ahead and linked walk through videos for your convenience.
