Recommended Ball Mount for 2013 Honda Pilot

My new 2013 Pilot hitch receiver hole for a ball mount is 4inch higher 20.25 at its center than that of my 2003 Pilot hitch hole. My old ball mount had only a 2inch and 6.5inch center to center distance. What and CTC distance would you recommend on a ball mount for my new Pilot? I would be towing a double axle rental trailer, or a jet ski and ATV trailer generally. Should I go as low as a 6inch this time and a longer 8-9inch long shaft?

On average, the coupler height of a trailer that is jacked up so that it is level is between 17-19 inches high.

To determine the rise or drop your ballmount needs, jack the trailer so that the frame is level to the ground. Measure from the underside of the coupler down to the ground. Then measure from the top inside edge of the receiver opening to the ground. The difference between these two measurements is the rise or drop needed. If the receiver height of the Pilot is greater than the coupler height of the level trailer, you will need a ball mount with a drop. If the level trailer coupler height is greater than the receiver height of the Pilot, use a ball mount with a rise.

You might find that a ball mount with the exact correct rise or drop is not available. If this is the case, get as close as you can. As long as you are within 2 or so inches of level, you will be fine. Its is preferable to have the trailer ball a bit high than too low.

Since it sounds like you might be towing several different trailers, perhaps an adjustable ball mount like part # TK5007 would be the way to go.

The distance between the hitch pin hole and the hole for the trailer ball is typically between 8 and 10 inches, if you choose a ball mount with the proper rise or drop with 8 to 10 inch hole spacing, you should be just fine.

Sure, if you have a tow bar that attaches to a 2" hitch ball you can use the Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2" Hitch Ball #C40047. The RockerBall will function the same as any other hitch ball for that purpose.
