Recommended Hitch for 2011 Nissan Juke for Towing 2,000 Pound Trailer With Brakes

Question:

Hello I’m looking to put the Timbren axel less axel 2000 lbs on my trailer project. I’d also like to add brakes to the build. I’ll be pulling it with my 2011 Nissan Juke. I’d like to know if I can install a class 1 hitch with a 2” ball hitch adapter to tow 2000 lbs?

Yes, you can use a Class I hitch like the Curt # C11302 to tow your 2,000 lb trailer. I recommend this hitch if you have the 2011 Nissan Juke with front wheel drive. If you have the all wheel drive model, you will need the # C11088 instead. Both of these hitches have a maximum gross trailer weight of 2,000 lbs, so as long as you do not exceed the capacity of the hitch you will be fine.

You will also want to double check your owner's manual to make sure your Nissan Juke is capable of towing your trailer. From what I have found, the towing capacity of the 2011 Nissan Juke is 2,755 lbs (listed as 1,250kg) but you should verify that information before towing.

For a ball mount that will fit the 1-1/4" receiver. I recommend the # C45520 and the # C40018 for a 2" ball.

If you need to add wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118528. This will give you a 4-way connection at the back of your vehicle. In order to upgrade from a 4-way to a 7-way and be able to use your trailer brakes, you will need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes the 7-way adapter and everything else you need in order to upgrade to a 7-way connection.

To complete your setup you will also need a brake controller to control your trailer brakes. Check out the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This proportional brake controller can mount anywhere out of the way in your vehicle so it won't take up space. The control knob mounts in the dash for easy adjustment. Pressing on the knob activates the manual override and it uses a colored LED for diagnostics. You will also want the # RED69FR wiring harness for installation.

Since you mentioned adding brakes on your Timbren Axle-Less Suspension, I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-469 for the right hand and # 23-468 for the left hand. These are compatible with the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K you looked at for your Timbren system. These are self-adjusting brakes so they require very little maintenance and you won't have to worry about manual adjustments.

I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
