What Motorcycle Carrier do You Recommend for My 92-Pound E-Bikes on My 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
Question:
Hello, We purchased 2 Himiway Escape ebikes. I looked online and the weight of each bike is 92 lbs! It seems they are too heavy for this item. Any suggestion for a rack that will work on a 4 door Jeep Wrangler. My husband is thinking of getting a trailer but that does not appeal to me. Thank you for your assistance.

If you are trying to avoid a trailer at all costs like the Detail K2 Mighty Multi Utility Trailer - 6' Long # K2MMT4X6, I have a really creative solution for you. Unfortunately, we do not have any traditional 2-bike hitch bike racks that will work with the 92 pound weight of your 2 Himiway Escape E-bikes. You are correct that the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 does not have enough weight capacity to handle your e-bikes.
With that being said, I recommend using an Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier # UF48-979033 on the front and rear of your 2020 Jeep Wrangler. As long as you have a rear hitch that installs near or past the rear bumper like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - 2" # DT78MR, you will have enough shank length on the Ultra-Fab to clear the spare tire on your Wrangler. This is because the length from the center of the shank of the Ultra-Fab to the closest edge of the carrier is 15-1/2 inches. If you already have a rear hitch receiver, I recommend measuring the distance from the center of the hitch's pinhole to the outside face of your spare tire to make sure it does not exceed 15-1/2 inches. The 5-inch tray of the Ultra-Fab will be able to accommodate the 4-inch fat tires of your e-bikes.
As for a front hitch receiver, I recommend the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 65079. The front hitch comes with all hardware required for an easy bolt-on installation. Since there is not a spare tire to worry about, you will have plenty of shank length for clearance. The only caution is that the handlebars will most likely peek over the front of the hood a bit (given that the length of the Himiway is 46.5 inches fron the bottom of the tires to the top of the handlebars). However, this should not be an issue for visibility.
Both the front and the rear hitch will give you enough tongue weight to carry your 92-pound electric bikes along with the 52 pounds of the Ultra-Fab. For straps, I recommend 2 sets of the Erickson Motorcycle and ATV Tie-Downs w Soft Ties and TCS Buckles - 1"x6' - 400 lbs # EM05729. For theft-deterrence of the Ultra-Fabs, I recommend 2 etrailer Hitch Locks # e98882.
